On Est Queer City USA

A-D queer cityThe Argus-Dispatch (A-D) has made it official.  It has exercised considerable one-upmanship over the Quad City Times to report laud Davenport’s “openness to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” giving the story front page coverage, above the fold, an even bigger picture, and at least as much verbiage. By doing so it establishes a rainbow across the river, a bi-state of existence. To adopt and adapt the Quad City Times’ titular plural/singular grammatical corruption, with the characterization provided by the The Advocate magazine, this area is Queer City USA.

Still more questions have come our way which we endeavor to answer:

Why the extensive coverage by local legacy media?

It could have something to do with local editors and reporters, what is important to them, a desire for affirmation (for the area they live in).

What else could explain it?

Some have suggested the endemic openness to everything gay comes from something in the water (plastics?), or the bend in the river.

Where does the city go from here?

To start with, a more fabulous gay pride street festival. Castro Street will have seen nothing like it.

We don’t want to get any deeper onto coverage of the matter or we will be confused with the D-A and QCT editors.
