Obama’s Political Legacy . . .

. . . an  opportunity presented to Republicans

Not a good thing in and of itself (Obama should not have been elected in the first place to do so much damage) but that he was bad enough to make some people wake up might make some of them less susceptible to the siren song of big-government, for their lifespan  anyway.

This will only turn into good news if elected Republicans use their strength to correct what Obama and Democrats have wrought. It may be too late. We do not have strong hope that elected Republicans will.  They have squandered their preventative power so very often, that confidence is impossible.

However it is undeniable that Obama left not only economic wreckage (previous post) but political wreckage for his party (deservedly as they were enablers when not co-conspirators).  It was at a level  beyond any other outgoing president.

Benny Johnson writing at Independent Journal Review pulled together some 9 or 10 graphs from several sources indicating political trends in the wake of Obama.  We set forth a few.  The full article provides a good reference summarizing the November election.  We remember the NeverTrumper’s frequent admonition that his nomination would hurt down ticket races. Well that didn’t happen.

5 Maps Prove Just How Devastating the Obama Years Have Been To The Democratic Party   (excerpts)

PBS reports that the Obama era “all but wiped out a generation of young Democrats.”

The defeats have all but wiped out a generation of young Democrats, leaving the party with limited power in statehouses and a thin bench to challenge an ascendant GOP majority eager to undo many of the president’s policies. To be sure, the president’s party almost always loses seats in midterm elections. But, say experts, Obama’s tenure has marked the greatest number of losses under any president in decades.

Here is the congressional district breakdown:

According to Fox News, Obama has overseen over 1,000 Democratic party losses nationally:

The Democratic Party suffered huge losses at every level during Obama’s West Wing tenure. The grand total: a net loss of 1,042 state and federal Democratic posts, including congressional and state legislative seats, governorships and the presidency.

The latter was perhaps the most profound example of Obama’s popularity failing to translate to support for his allies. Hillary Clinton, who served as secretary of state under Obama, brought the first family out for numerous campaign appearances. In September, Obama declared that his “legacy’s on the ballot.”

Less than two months later, Americans voted for Donald Trump.
