Especially Germany?!
Wasn’t it Germany’s, and, the world’s, leading auto manufacturer, Volkswagen who cared so much about the environment that they cheated on the pollution standards of their diesel cars?
Yeah, I think it was:
Volkswagen Group’s emissions scandal grew Friday as the Environmental Protection Agency and California regulators said the automaker had admitted that its 3-liter V-6 diesel vehicles from the last seven years had violated clean-air standards.
Regulators said company officials acknowledged Thursday in a meeting that emissions violations the EPA had previously alleged — most from the last couple of model years — go much further.
Now it includes all Volkswagen and Audi U.S. vehicles with 3-liter diesel engines from the 2009 to 2016 model years, the regulators said. That covers 85,000 vehicles in the U.S..
Consider as well that Germany did not fine VW, basically just told them to fix it, a cheat if you can message if there ever was one, although it is still investigating.
VW won’t be fined by German government for diesel cheating
German Ministry of Transport just requires that VW return cars “to a legally compliant condition.”
Here, VW was fined criminal penalties, other fines and restitution mandated and managers put in jail.
