“‘It’s not just for Maria Calderon, but for all the Maria Calderons,’ Karp said”

  • Karpe the dum
  • Indeed, all the “Maria Calderons”
  • The real moral tale in this supports Sheriff Lane

Where is the moral sympathy from the left?

Read this inspiring article about Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane in today’s Dispatch-Argus (DA).  It was doubtfully intended that way given the pretty sympathetic focus on those who are protesting Lane’s appropriate cooperation with immigration enforcement and those protestors’ support of an illegal alien charged with shoplifting.   Sheriff Lane deserves credit for doing his job in spite of the leftist lightning squad all primed for just such an eventuality.  The protestors, we charge, have little or no sympathy for America as a nation-state, borders or taxpayers.  Sheriff Lane does. The protestors want  a defacto sanctuary county.  We think that would dangerously abide criminal conduct. Here is the link to the DA article:

Rally supports woman held on ICE detainer

Reading it we do not know the specifics of  Ms Calderon’s illegal immigration status, whether she is “DACA” or not, or the history of her six offspring, said in the article to be US citizens. But we can make a generic supposition of too-common situations — the other “Maria Calderons”.

The core of what the protestors were protesting is local cooperation with “hold ” requests, lawfully extending from immigration enforcement authorities to other law enforcement agencies.  The hold requests do not come out of the blue but are based on records pertaining to someone of that name who according to those records has evaded immigration law and reasonable limitations relating to their residency “status”. Lists of undocumented border jumpers can also be referenced based on various failures by them to provide documents, other arrests or contact with the law and reporting agencies or  various other scenarios that put them in the system.  These people are often “on the lamb”.

The “holds” on non-citizens are necessary to appropriately and effectively allow the federal agency  to enforce, investigate, or serve notice on people “well documented” to have thwarted immigration laws. If immigration law breakers cannot be rooted out, then borders and immigration laws are meaningless. But that is what the protestors in their heart of hearts want, no enforceable immigration restrictions, with essentially open borders and the unlimited availability of tax supported services to non-citizens and conferred citizenship in spite of breaking immigration laws.

The protestors sympathy is skewed toward immigration law breakers, illegal aliens, who rather than abide by immigration laws . . . evade  . . . or unconscionably take advantage of US state and local welfare and education provisions as non-citizens. The “progressive” protestors are leftist dolts that give aid and comfort to law breakers and encourage more. The protestors and the “Dreamers” and other immigration law evaders have no meaningful or actionable sympathy for immigration laws or citizen taxpayers.  Everything they propose would sustain and more likely increase the problem.

Rabi Karp and his leftist ilk essentially want sanctuary cities, no cooperation with immigration authorities — requiring Sheriff Lane to ignore immigration laws or  be judge and jury regarding federal statutes. What other wants, warrants or holds would they have him ignore from agencies they disfavor, state or federal, in spite of those agencies responsibilities under the Constitution? What else would they have him do in spite of his elected responsibilities?

Illegal aliens euphemistically referred to as undocumented immigrants are fugitives from just laws even uncompounded by any other offense, or accusation.*  There were ways to make their status legal and secure which they studiously avoided because of the burden on themselves while disregarding others at various levels of desire or desperation who are law abiding. They want Americas largess without its laws, without enforceable protections for its citizens, or sustainable orderly limitations to immigration.

Looking at the protestors other political proclivities, that cast of characters wants the impossibility of a welfare state and open borders and probably want one-world government. They are either very confused in their misplaced narrow sympathies or very manipulative.

Many “Maria Calderons” unlawfully elbow out desperate oppressed people seeking relief from definitive persecution, in the Middle East, in Africa, in Asia, in South and Central America and everywhere there are people who want to immigrate to the US but are respectful of US immigration laws and the burdens they might impose on US taxpayer largess. We can only absorb so many  and those numbers are affected by the number of illegal aliens present. Illegal aliens do elbow out others, that is the morality tale the protestors ignore in their selective preening.

Frankly the age and longevity references in the DA article would seem to indicate that the particular Ms Calderon was more than old enough to know that she was part of something wrong if surreptitious when she entered the country, however or whoever with, or by overstaying any temporary status afforded her.

Sheriff Lane is doing his job professionally and humanely – helping enforce meaningful immigration law to benefit prospective legal immigrants.  Would that the Karps of this world had such respect.

*the issue of the shoplifting charge related to Ms Calderon is pertinent to how she ended up in the county jail.  Store security, one would think, would be able to quickly determine if the “my kid did it” defense was authentic, something innocent of that nature can happen. However the absence of surveillance camera is no defense to an appropriate investigation into the matter based on a unpurchased item in her possession after check-out, if that is what happened. The ensuing immigration hold is perfectly legitimate and appropriate.
