Rant that shook the world — Tea Party anniversary

We’ve been ranting pretty much ever sense.  The first TEA Party revolts were held February 29th 2009. Veritas PAC was established as a statewide political action committee in July of 2010 and VeritasPAC.com in December of 2011. The impetus was the frustration shared and as chronicled in this communication from Tea Party Patriots.

Local resident Tom Nelson called soon after Santelli’s rant with the intent to be part of the revolt, alone or with somebody. A demonstration was organized, one of several over a few years and President Donald Trump is one of the results. Posted is a picture of a local April 2010 TEA party protest.  Somewhere we have some pictures of the first local event from 2009.  DLH experienced a number of larger TEA Party protests in his travels.  It is part of our bloodline.

From Tea Party Patriots

“This is America! How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor’s mortgage that has an extra bathroom and can’t pay their bills? Raise their hand!”

“You know, Cuba used to have mansions and a relatively decent economy. They moved from the individual to the collective. Now, they’re driving ’54 Chevys, maybe the last great car to come out of Detroit.”

“We’re thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party in July. All you capitalists that want to show up to Lake Michigan, I’m gonna start organizing.”

Does that sound familiar?

Tomorrow, February 19, 2009 is the 10th anniversary of Rick Santelli’s famous rant that sparked a movement that changed the course of America.

Our story – the tea party movement’s story – begins with frustration over the bank bailouts in 2008. The outrage boiled over as President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress quickly rammed their “stimulus” bill through both chambers, despite a massive surge of opposition from the American public.

Americans knew it was a giant slush fund for leftist groups and Democrat cronies of more than $787 billion (we now know the final number is $831 billion spent), and that we were already trillions of dollars in debt. We knew that adding another trillion dollars to the debt for nothing was going to further enslave future generations – our kids and grandkids! The stimulus betrayed so many of the values our nation was founded on – fiscal responsibility, limited government, accountability to the people, free markets, and individual rights.

Rick Santelli publicly verbalized what we were all thinking and saying to our friends and families at the time. We are so grateful to Rick Santelli for his fearless and bold statement that attacked the stimulus, defended individualism and free markets, and sparked a movement of patriotic, Constitution-loving Americans to put pressure on their elected officials to return to the principles that made our country great. And, after his rant, there were conservatives all over Twitter, talking to each other, agreeing that a “tea party” sounded exactly right. The next day, 22 conservatives got on a conference call to organize the first round of tea parties that were then held all over the country on February 27, 2009.   . . .
