ROMNEY-ERNST IN 2020?*

GOP’s Mitt Romney and Joni Ernst call for investigation into E. Jean Carroll rape allegation

Just pondering the political field in Iowa: Is Joni Ernst’s reelection the best the Iowa GOP can offer to the US Senate in 2020? She advanced from State Senator to the US Senate. Are there no other such advancements possible? Perhaps less conflicted?

While not casting doubt on her widely publicized report that she herself was a victim of rape while in college, and suffered physical and psychological abuse by her ex-husband, rather one must wonder if Joni Ernst is too troubled by her victimization that she may not be very effective in her role as a US Senator and distracted from moving a conservative agenda. Is it too much to ask of a Republican Senator, male or female, to reflect that even Presidents, rich white and male if they are, especially one who is a frequent target of lies, are presumed innocent until proven guilty and have the discipline, indeed decency to say so?

Ms. Ernst, in joining with the bitter anti-Trump Mitt Romney does nothing to quell one’s concerns.

Mitt Romney has made no secret of his wish that Hillary Clinton had been elected president in 2016. That he has latched on to E. Jean Carroll’s highly dubious allegations (‘while offering no evidence’ … an always popular note by any liberal media outlet when reporting on any Trump statement), is no surprise. That Senator Ernst would join him in his transparent effort to damage Trump is disheartening to say the least. To even suggest an “investigation” on such a flimsy accusation is something only an Adam Schiff or a Jerry Nadler could take seriously.

How would anybody feel comfortable in an alliance of any kind with those 3 stooges (Romney, Nadler, and Schiff)?

Ernst is up for reelection next year. If this represents an opening stratagem in her campaign, we believe it is not a very helpful one . . . maybe even an alarming one!

To align herself with Mitt Romney on much of anything may be Ms. Ernst’s biggest bonehead play of her reelection bid in a state that went overwhelmingly for Trump.      DLH

*Sufficiently provocative we trust but no we don’t anticipate the Romney-Ernst ticket in 2020.
