A very interesting NY Times piece. It really underscores the thinking and strategy of the GOPe and its donor class. They acknowledge that Trump has successfully tapped into the anger the conservative base feels toward the entire Republican establishment, including the congressional “leadership”.

Their solution is to do whatever it takes to take Trump out. Clearly they believe that then, the conservative base will have nowhere to go and will thus accept their handpicked candidate.
And why not? That has been the case in most previous elections, especially the last two presidential elections.
This time, these geniuses might be grievously mistaken.
