WHEN OLD SOLDIERS MISS THE LIMELIGHT

. . .  AND FORGET WHY THEY WERE ONCE ADMIRED

POWELL: TRUMP IS DANGEROUS TO OUR COUNTRY

“On Biden Powell added, “I’m very close to Joe Biden in a social manner and political manner. I’ve worked with him for 35, 40 years, and he is now the candidate and I will be voting for him.”

Says More About Colin Powell Than About Donald Trump

This is what happens when a once true hero starts missing the ‘limelight’, and grossly misjudges what Americans admired him for.

Colin Powell was never an erudite political observer. Outside of his military experience and expertise, there is rather strong evidence that Powell is neither all that bright and perceptive, nor a very admirable character when he is no longer a ‘center of attention’.

dlh

At some point, oh 12 years ago or longer,  Powell became a Democrat for all practical purposes (if he wasn’t always for all practical purposes) so who gives a nickel if he is endorsing Joe Biden against Trump other than in the particular case he unavoidably “shares” the corruption, buffoonery and incompetence of Biden.  The media pretends this guy is still a Republican. He preferred the globalist corruption of Hillary to Trump’s blue collar appeal.  He shared her indifference to national security regarding e-mails

No more Vince Lombardi Trophy…it’s the ‘Colon’ Kaepernick Cereal Box Prize

  • Goodell spikes the fans

dlh — Capitulation that makes Neville Chamberlain look like a “Profile in Courage”

“We the National Football League condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people,” Goodell continued. “We the National Football League admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We the National Football League believe Black Lives Matter.” Roger Goodell

So if all peaceful protests are acceptable, using NFL auspices, even if the display offends many, then what about joyful celebration, say for a play or touchdown???

Employers will be clamoring to hire graduates from this “institution”

Poster originated as a parody of conservative views, but campuses today are a parody, and not unlike this.  Expand or zoom to make more readable

THE GOOD IDEAS JUST KEEP COMING!

BLACK “GRADUATES” FROM THIS ‘INSTITUTION’ WOULD BE GREAT “HIRES” IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOCIAL ACTIVISTS…PROBABLY NOT MUCH ELSE; U OF WASHINGTON ISN’T DOING ITS TRUE STUDENTS ANY FAVORS.
———————
Students call for laxed grading for black students. University goes along with it.

Students at the University of Washington are demanding that black students be given leniency on finals because they are too “busy fighting for [their] rights to sit down and study.” The university is advising professors to do just that.

An online petition calls for laxed grading and accommodations, specifically for Black students. So far, the petition has amassed more than 26,000 signatures.

“…be especially responsive to the needs that your students, especially those who are members of the Black community, may have for accommodations as we conclude the school year.” Tweet This

“…give Black students a break! We are already DISPROPORTIONATELY impacted by this pandemic in terms of health care access and financial hardship. Now add state-sanctioned violence, how do you expect us to enter finals in this headspace?!” reads the petition.

“You need to encourage and demand professors to accommodate their black students during this time. If UW truly understands our pain, UW will be a part of alleviating it,” the petition continues. “We can’t sit back and watch as injustices unfold before our eyes.

We don’t have the privilege that white and non-black students do to ignore what’s happening and stay at home to study for finals,” the petition added.

“We are busy fighting for our rights and for the rights of future black children and students to sit down and study. The least UW could do is demand professors to accommodate us during this time”

“I recognize that this institution and others across the country were not built to serve marginalized students, specifically Black students. Still to this day, institutions such as UW, do not serve Black students to the same capacity that white students benefit from,” student government president Kelty Pierce told The Daily.

A template to help professors announce these accommodations has been circulating on social media, reading “Dear Students, I am writing to you to offer accommodations for black students in this class during the end of this class and finals.”

“Many black students are not just using this time to cope emotionally, but to fight on the front lines of these protests and actively work and take action on what has been happening to the black community.” it continues.

Nicole McNichols, UW Psychology Professor provided Campus Reform with a copy of the email she sent to her own students.

“I sent this on Sunday before I knew about the petition,” McNichols said. “Obviously, I support the petition and absolutely believe the accommodations it requests should be honored by all faculty. Students need all of the support and compassion we can afford to give them right now.”

The email sent by McNichols to her students reads, “I wanted to reach out and acknowledge the incredible grief, fear, and loneliness that I know many of you are experiencing in light of recent (and not so recent) events. These are frightening times and I know that many of you are struggling emotionally as our country suffers not only from a pandemic but also from abhorrent racism, overwhelming violence, and palpable rage. These events are terrible and it is completely understandable to feel scared and alone right now.”

“Last, I think we all could use a break right now as these times certainly call for compassion. Given this, there will be a following change to the course policies. First, the remaining homework chapters are being put into review mode. Everyone will receive full points. Second, I have decided to drop everyone’s lowest exam score. This means that you may opt-out of taking Exam 3 if you just don’t feel up to it, (or if you [are] happy with your scores from exam 1 and 2), the email added.”

Mad Dog meet (General) Dwight Eisenhower

Wow, helmets and rifles

Regarding General (retired)  “Mad Dog” Mattes comments criticizing President Trump for holding out the possibility of using troops if governors  and mayors won’t protect their citizens (see earlier post) and also regarding Trump’s own Defense Secretary Esper who seems to have sandbagged the president with insufficiently undeveloped comments about the same (see below).

Via WGN — Esper told reporters the Insurrection Act, which would allow Trump to use active-duty military for law enforcement in containing street protests, should be invoked in the United States “only in the most urgent and dire of situations.” He declared, “We are not in one of those situations now.”

For a week now leftists, looters, thugs and Black Lives Matter have destroyed and torched businesses and government buildings across the country.

Now this…

Secretary Esper ordered the National Guard troops sent to Washington DC to NOT carry any guns or ammunition.

Esper also ordered all active-duty troops out of Washington DC.

Esper reportedly made this order without consulting the White House.

Secretary Esper is now putting National Guardsmen in danger.

thegatewaypundit.com/2020/06/without-consulting-trump-white-house-defense-secretary-esper-orders-national-guard-not-carry-guns-ammunition-washington-dc/

It was a “racial time”

Esper is too young to remember Dwight Eisenhower federalizing  the Arkansas National Guard in order to take them out of the hands of the Arkansas governor in order to insure they were not used to thwart the rule of law in that state. He then sent in regular Army troops to protect the rule of law and citizens.

It was a transitional racial time in the fifties and the Democrat Arkansas governor was interested in protecting racist laws even with the military. He ran the state after all. Republican President Eisenhower would have none of the use of the color of law and order to deny civil rights to people of color. The violence and threat of violence against the exercise of civil rights of all citizens would be stopped if local leaders would not, or indeed were part of the problem.

Now we have ANTIFA militants and garden variety looters using charges of racism where color blind law is working* to deny the rule of law with their rioting, arson, murder and pillaging. Local Democrat leadership in the effected areas when not weak are complicit with the anarchists for their own political purposes, just as Arkansas Democrat Governor Orval Faubus was in protecting segregation for his own political purposes. If current political leadership won’t put a stop to the  anarchy President Trump will use his legitimate powers to do so.

Veterans what say you?

What are the thoughts of the numerous military veterans and retirees in the Quad Cities?
There are many who have served with true distinction; their voices would be welcome and would add much to the “conversation”.

V’pac may not be the loudest forum in this community, but some of its readers have earned and can rightfully claim a special right to be heard on where our nation should be going vs. where it is apparently headed. Let us hear from you, and through this forum, let the community hear you!

* The catalyst for the current anarchists, always looking for a match and kindling, was the arrest and death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. One of the arresting officers has been charged with second degree murder and three others have been fired and are facing criminal charges. They deserve their day in court and it is important to see that a fair trial proceeds. Color blind law is working. We note that most of the rioting is occurring in Democrat run jurisdictions. Ironic don’t you think.

LA Mayor Garcetti adds meaning to the slogan

A Great Idea ! And all of the goof balls who voted for Mayor Garcetti and his band of clowns can figure out what to do when the thugs come for them. Just don’t call Americans to bail out your sorry asses.        dlh

ABOLISH THE POLICE IS MORE THAN A SLOGAN

– A formula for the Destruction of America

– The Meaning of the Term “Dismantle the Mechanism of the White Supremacy Structure”  Becomes Clearer

https://thefederalist.com/2020/06/05/abolish-the-police-is-a-slogan-for-the-destruction-of-america/

“This week Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, announced the city would be slashing the police department’s budget by $100 to $150 million and instead “reinvesting in black communities and communities of color.” The cuts to the LA police will make up the bulk of $250 million in funds to be reallocation to “end racism in our city,” Garcetti said. How exactly those millions will be spent remains unclear, but the mayor has in mind investments “in jobs, in education, and healing.”

Seriously, what did we expect. No irony here:

Generals who want to bypass Congress’ checks and balance role

  • Once again, there’s that term, “dismantle white supremacy” !
  • A “junta”?, or a new ice cream flavor?

SOME MIGHT INTERPRET “MAD DOG’S” OP-ED AS BEGINNING A CALL FOR A ‘MILITARY JUNTA’!

We wondered what the left meant by that term. What is it, specifically, “Charlamagne ‘Tha god'”, and those ice cream vendors, Ben and Jerry, want to “break up, destroy, demolish, undo, wreck, etc”!

Now we know.

Mad Dog’s besties instead of elections and constitutional checks and balances

We were already aware that, in large part, they meant…” tear down the American system of government, economy, and society in general.”

It has been obvious for a long time, that the left… the political left, the religious left, the ‘social’ left…wanted to literally, burn down our capitalist system. They’ve wanted to ‘demolish’ the Constitution…too restrictive, as Obama observed, as far as what government can do in ruling the lives of its citizens!

It is now apparent what some of the specifics of how the left intends to “permanently transform” the USA.

1) “Eliminate police departments! “Defund the police” cries are being heard around the nation, in cities dominated by the Democratic Party . Minneapolis, Los Angeles are among cities in which officials (Democrats) are going forward with legislation to drastically cut funds for or eliminate entirely their police departments.

2) Military generals, active and retired as well as at least one Cabinet official are publicly criticizing President Trump’s possible use of active military in the event that the civil unrest worsens and certain city governments are unable or unwilling to assure their citizens’ safety.

More importantly, former Secretary of Defense and retired Marine general, James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis and current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army General Mark Milley seem to be urging active military personnel to potentially defy orders from the their Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United states, citing, of course, their own ‘respect’ for the Constitution.

Both men are highly decorated combat veterans, universally recognized and acclaimed for heroic military service.

But, in our opinion, that doesn’t make them immune from leftist media flattery nor does it make them political geniuses or Constitutional experts. Whether attempting to urge creation of a “military Junta” or not, the op-ed by Mattis and the letter to military leaders by Milley suggests a very dangerous path they seem moved to embark upon.

At any rate, regardless of the intent of these gentlemen, a military overthrow of the US government would not be met with disappointment by many on the left.

Instead, we suggest, that it would be one manifestation of their desire to “dismantle” the “white privilege structure” they now cite as the root of all problems in America..

And their support of “defunding” or eliminating police departments is only a page out of the radical communist revolutionary’s playbook.

And, don’t think the left doesn’t have their own ideas of “police reform” and on what would replace “police departments”. Every authoritarian regime has had its version of “police reform” and they have not necessarily called their oppressive, repressive arms of government “police” but their function was to go way beyond the police authority of a free society such as America has been since its founding.

To those mis-informed, ill-educated young people …be very careful what you wish for; there are some very evil people very willing to give it to you.        dlh

So, Ben and Jerry agree  with “Charlamagne tha god” over at the “Breakfast Club.

V’pac reported  earlier this week on an interview the ‘club’ had with Rush Limbaugh. ‘(RUSH MEETS WITH BREAKFAST CLUB; SEEMS TO PROVE ‘DIALOGUE A USELESS EXERCISE”)

In that interview, “tha god” offered his ‘solution’ to the racial unrest and protests surrounding the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

So far, as ominous” as the term  sounds, we’ve not heard, either from the Breakfast Club or the former ice cream vendors, exactly what “dismantling of ‘White Supremacy” or as “Charlemagne” called it, the “mechanism of the White Supremacy Structure” actually entails.

What do they propose should be “destroyed”, “demolished”, “wrecked”, etc?!

Apparently, Ben and Jerry believe it has something to do with “inhumane police brutality that is perpetuated by a culture of white supremacy.” According to them, there  is some kind of “culture” that requires “inhumane police brutality”!

Does our governmental structure in America require  that “inhumane brutality” by our law enforcement apparatus?

If that’s “Charlamagne Tha god’s” and Ben’s and Jerry’s notion of what should be “dismantlled” in this country, what, if anything, should replace it in their view? And what is entailed in “dismantling” it?

Must our system of laws, and the Constitution which undergirds it be replaced?

By what, “Tha god”, Ben, Jerry?…is there a system of government and a means by which to assure order in a society that is better than the one the United States of Americas has?

Well, if so, by golly fellas, let’s hear it!   dlh

————————————-

Ben & Jerry’s calls on Americans to ‘dismantle white supremacy’ in forceful statement

(CNN) — Let there be no doubt where Ben & Jerry’s stands.

The ice cream maker has called on Americans to “dismantle white supremacy” and “grapple with the sins of our past” as nationwide protests against racial injustice stretch into their eighth day.

In a forceful statement posted to the company’s website late on Tuesday, Ben & Jerry’s describes the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of a white police officer as the result of “inhumane police brutality that is perpetuated by a culture of white supremacy.”

“What happened to George Floyd was not the result of a bad apple; it was the predictable consequence of a racist and prejudiced system and culture that has treated Black bodies as the enemy from the beginning,” said the brand, which is owned by Unilever.

Companies including Nike, Netflix, Twitter, Disney, Facebook and Intel have condemned racism and injustice in recent days. But the statement from Ben & Jerry’s is unusually comprehensive and direct, addressing the historical roots of discrimination in the United States and calling out systemic racism, while advocating specific policies to prevent further police abuses and redress racial inequality.

“Slavery, Jim Crow and segregation were systems of legalized and monetized white supremacy for which generations of Black and Brown people paid an immeasurable price. That cost must be acknowledged and the privilege that accrued to some at the expense of others must be reckoned with and redressed,” the company said in its statement.

Ben & Jerry’s, which also publicly supported the Black Lives Matter movement, called on President Donald Trump to disavow white supremacists and nationalist groups that “overtly support him.”

The ice cream maker also called for the US Department of Justice to reinvigorate its Civil Rights Division, and for Congress to pass H.R. 40, a bill that would create a commission to study the effects of discrimination since African slaves first arrived in North America in 1619 and recommend remedies.

Wilton Gregory, Catholic Archbishop and Political Hack

Apparently Appointed to both posts by Pope Francis

In the aftermath of Archbishop Wilton Gregory’s tirade aimed at President Trump, American Catholics should be asking exactly where their weekly donations of “Devil’s Dung” go(Pope Francis’ characterization of the money hardworking Catholics earn and a part of which they give to the Church) goes and for what “causes”?

How much of it, they should ask, goes to advance the “progressive” causes promoted by His Holiness and the clergy like “His Grace”, Archbishop Gregory*, and to the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed.

Certainly the Archbishop’s outburst was pleasing to those on the Catholic left and to those who share Pope Francis’s visions of his own “green New deal” and his aversion to capitalism and the “materialistic” middle class life style of the American people.

To openly and strongly criticize our president’s efforts to calm a very volatile situation, soothe the emotional suffering of his nation and bring a sense of unity through spiritual rediscovery is an unique kind of “spiritual hypocrisy”.

There is an irony to the archbishop’s rejection of the president’s appearance at the St. John Paul II National Shrine as a “photo op”.

Certainly Archbishop Gregory’s public statements to a liberal press, using his ‘prominence’ as “the first African American archbishop of the Archdiocese of Washington” were little more than a “photo Op’ itself !

So, again, it is appropriate for the faithful to ask if their donations are going to advance a partisan political narrative, a progressive ‘climate change’ agenda, an anti-capitalism movement or, instead of providing succor to people in lands of religious and civil oppression, to promote a vision of a world without borders or national cultures and aspirations (all as publicly professed by the Pontiff himself and likely shared by many in the Church’s hierarchy, appointed by Pope Francis.).

Where is Reverend Gregory’s outrage against rioters who destroy the livelihoods of innocent people. His Grace seemed not even critical of those who set fire to the church he was accusing President Trump of “defiling”.

And…where is the Catholic Church hierarchy? Does Archbishop Gregory speak for his church, and ours, with his political rhetoric?

Maybe Bishop Gregory is in the wrong line of work. Maybe his real occupational aspirations are to be the political activist, or as a party “ward healer” he acts as.

I would suggest, however, he do it with political contributions and not Church donations!

Miller-Meeks is nominee, Schilling carries Scott County

  • Three very conservative also-rans might have been the deciding factor, splitting the most conservative vote.
  • Note Miller-Meeks focus now as nominee
  • Schilling sends unifying concession message

In the Iowa Press Citizen:

State Sen. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Ottumwa won the Republican nomination for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday night. In November, she will face Democrat Rita Hart in the general election.

Miller Meeks received 22,682 votes or 48% of the vote. In the primary, she faced Bobby Schilling of Le Claire who received 17,356 votes (36% of the vote), Steven Everly of Knoxville who received 2,769 votes (6%), Rick Phillips of Pella who received 2,413 votes (5%) and Tim Borchardt of Iowa City who received 2,337 votes (5%).

“Voters want to know someone is going to fight for them, never quit on them and be their voice in D.C.,” Miller-Meeks told the Press-Citizen.

Miller-Meeks is an ophthalmologist who once directed the Iowa Department of Public Health. She served for 24 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a colonel. In 2018, she won the Iowa Senate District 41 seat, which includes Ottumwa, Fairfield, Bloomfield and Keosauqua.

The U.S. House seat is currently held by Democrat Rep. Dave Loebsack of Iowa City, who was first elected in 2006. He announced in April 2019 he would not run again.

The Republican primary was marked by a back-and-forth volley as Miller-Meeks and Bobby Schilling of Le Claire fought it out for who was the most anti-abortion candidate and who was the biggest supporter of President Donald Trump. In a press conference before the results were counted, Miller-Meeks said that while it was a tough primary, it makes her a better candidate, “battle-tested.”

Pushing past the primary, she said she is focused on a slate of issues: healthcare affordability, employability skills, infrastructure funding and policies that she said would “bring our country together, particularly given recent events.”

Miller-Meeks won the Republican nomination for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District three times before. She ran unsuccessfully to unseat Loebsack in 2008, 2010 and 2014.

“I just called Mariannette Miller-Meeks to congratulate her on her victory. I am proud of the campaign we ran. Tonight we came up short. That’s okay. I look forward to supporting both Donald Trump and Miller-Meeks in the fall,” Schilling said in a statement.

Schilling opened Saint Giuseppe’s Heavenly Pizza in Moline, Illinois in 1996. In 2010, he was elected to Illinois 17th Congressional District. In 2012, Democrat Cheri Bustos unseated Schilling and won a rematch with him in 2014. Schilling has lived in Le Claire since 2016.

He said that the campaign got Miller-Meeks to “embrace a more pro-life position,” endorsing among other things a fetal heartbeat bill.

“That’s a win,” he said.

While the Republican race for IA-02 was hotly contested, Democrats quickly consolidated around Rita Hart of Wheatland. Hart was an English teacher for twenty years. In 2012, she was elected to Iowa Senate District 49 which includes Clinton, Dewitt and Le Claire. In 2018, Hart ran on Fred Hubble’s unsuccessful ticket as lieutenant governor.

“We’re facing some of the most challenging times our country has ever experienced. I am heartbroken by the way hatred, racism, and violence are tearing our country apart. As a lifelong Iowan, farmer and teacher, I have seen the challenges that our communities are facing. Now more than ever, we need leadership that brings people together,” Hart said in a statement. “Whether it is health care, economic development, justice, public safety, or education, I will always work to put Iowans ahead of politics and provide real solutions to our toughest problems.”

In addition to a long list of endorsements, Hart has raised the most of any candidate in the race, Democrat or Republican. She ended primary election night with $1 million on hand.

IA-02’s major cities include Davenport, Iowa City, Muscatine, Clinton, Burlington, Ottumwa, Fort Madison, Oskaloosa, Bettendorf, Newton, and Pella.
